Kathryn’s Korner: See the Vision

Have you ever wondered why you are so scared when you watch a horror film? It seems like what you are watching is so real and your body goes through the physical and mental emotions just like you were actually experiencing what you are watching.

Our brain is a very complex, complicated and amazing organ that is made up of three different parts. To understand why we react the way we do, we need to understand about one of the three parts…the Reptilian brain. This part of our brain includes the brain stem and cerebellum and its primary function is survival instinct. The only problem with this part of our brain is that our imagined perceptions, as well as real ones, can be the cause of fear and stress or happiness and peace. To put it in “Layman’s terms” it means that our brain can’t distinguish between fantasy and reality and reacts accordingly.

So when you put all this into perspective it can be bad…like when we watch a horror movie because of the fear we feel because we think it is true. However, it can also be good because when we see something positive our brain will also believe it is true.

So let’s put this part of our brain to use in a positive way by creating a “Vision Board”. A Vision Board is a great way to encourage your brain into believing positive things and when it believes positive things they are more apt to come true. For example…subliminal advertising is a great way to illicit positive behaviors in someone through messages the brain receives. Creating a Vision Board is probably one of the most valuable visualization tools available to you and it’s also fun to make. It serves as your image of the future…a representation of where you are going. It represents your dreams, your goals and the type of life you want to live.

When you create a vision board you are creating a positive message for your brain. Think about all the things you would like to accomplish in your lifetime. Perhaps you want to be debt free, build your dream home, drive a new car, send your kids to college, go on exotic vacations, etc. When you create a vision board with pictures of all these things, your brain will constantly receive positive messages and help you accomplish your goals.

The old saying, “out of sight…out of mind” is never truer than when it comes to accomplishing goals. So take the time to create a Vision Board and proudly display it where you will see it each day. It will remind you of what you want to accomplish and also remind your brain of your ability to achieve the goals you have set for yourself. Remember…your brain will work tirelessly to achieve the statements you give your subconscious mind. When those statements are the positive affirmations and images of your goals, you are destined to achieve them!
